Brought to you by "The Weekend Winers"

"It's Not About the Wine; Just the Experience."

As a couple of folks who enjoy good wine and a little back roads adventure, we want to share our visits to the wineries nearby. The number of wineries in North Carolina and Virginia continues to grow, and as we travel to as many of them as we can, we'll offer our impressions, and just maybe some information you don't normally find in the brochures. We hope you find Byway & Vine enjoyable, informative, and a place where you can share your experiences too.

Wolfe Wines

Wolfe Wines in Snow Camp, NC was this week’s destination, nestled south of Snow Camp on Snow Camp Road.  This one year old winery was quite a surprise.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Mrs. Wolfe as she poured a wide variety of wines for me. I learned about her growing up in Burlington with an itch to live a more rural life.  It all combined with an interest in home wine making that she shared with her husband. Establishment of Wolfe Wines became a calling.

Offering chardonnay and Merlot along with a wide variety of other fruit based wines, I was provided a sampling of all their varieties and a logo glass all for only $5.00. The Wolfes also offer their traditional sweet fruit wines in a dry and semi dry taste; so you may enjoy sampling a Strawberry, Apple and Cherry wine in one of these selections.

Along with a nice size tasting room appointed with a distinct mural, a welcome fireplace and rockers, the winery provides scheduled events throughout the year.

Wolfe Wines is a must-see on your way to Chapel Hill, or if you're just taking a drive hoping to get lost in the wonders of North Carolina.

Getting There:

From I-40/85 take exit 147 Hwy 87 south to either Bass Mountain Road or Greensboro-Chapel Hill Rd east to Snow Camp Rd.
Coming from Greensboro on I-85, I choose Alamance Church Road, which happens to be one of North Carolina's Scenic Byways heading south for several miles. In Kimsville, it becomes Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road.  Take a left on Snow Camp Road, then go about 1-2 miles and start looking for the sign on the right.
Hours of operation are Thursday, Friday and Sunday 1:00pm-6:00pm and Saturday from 12:00pm-6:00pm
