Brought to you by "The Weekend Winers"

"It's Not About the Wine; Just the Experience."

As a couple of folks who enjoy good wine and a little back roads adventure, we want to share our visits to the wineries nearby. The number of wineries in North Carolina and Virginia continues to grow, and as we travel to as many of them as we can, we'll offer our impressions, and just maybe some information you don't normally find in the brochures. We hope you find Byway & Vine enjoyable, informative, and a place where you can share your experiences too.

GlenMarie Winery

Our next stop was GlenMarie Winery located a few miles off the beaten path in Alamance County. This is an intimate and charming place where Glendale and Joyce Marie Dickey live and work. Operating from a room off of their home one enters a cozy and friendly tasting room.
We were greeted by Marie, our host, and resident wine server; who along with much knowledge about their wine provided much information on NC wine history.

Whether one selects to sit in the patio area outdoors or on a comfortable sofa in front of a warm fire; one will feel as we did part of the family among friends.

Having been in business since 2000 the winery sits on several acres and produces 12 different wines; all pleasant and delightful. For only $5.00 and the glass; we sampled all of what they produced. Wines are reasonably priced and all are produced and bottled on site. Tasting room hours are Thursday –Sunday 12-6.

GlenMarie also had a few additional surprises in store outside; the first of which was their dog park in which they hold regular events, and two new additions to the family Alpacas. As Marie told us a surprise gift from Glen after she had seen some at a friends. When asked if they were pet friendly Glen indicated that normally they prefer to do the petting but they both were very friendly.

If traveling on I85/I40 take exit #150 Haw River head north about 1.8 miles to Hwy 70; cross 70 turn right on Bason Rd for about 3 miles then a left on Mebane Rodgers Rd after about 1.5 miles take a right on Johnson Rd the winery is less than a ½ a mile on the left at 1833 Johnson Rd, Burlington, NC 27217, 336-578-3938, glenmariewinery@aol.com

Keep an eye on GlenMarie as the seasons change for events aimed at Weekend Winers everywhere.
