Brought to you by "The Weekend Winers"

"It's Not About the Wine; Just the Experience."

As a couple of folks who enjoy good wine and a little back roads adventure, we want to share our visits to the wineries nearby. The number of wineries in North Carolina and Virginia continues to grow, and as we travel to as many of them as we can, we'll offer our impressions, and just maybe some information you don't normally find in the brochures. We hope you find Byway & Vine enjoyable, informative, and a place where you can share your experiences too.

Benjamin Vineyards and Winery

As a Valentines Day treat my wife and I took a short trip to the Benjamin Vineyard and Winery part of the Haw River Trail. On such a beautiful day coming from Greensboro, North Carolina we meandered down Hwy 87 after leaving I 40 east then grabbed Swepsonville-Saxapahaw Road which was rich with North Carolina scenery. Once in Saxapahaw we took a left on Jordon Dr. then a right on Church across the bridge for a left on Whitney Lane.
The wineries was easy to locate right off of Whitney; as we entered we saw a very nice patio with ample seating overlooking the wineries vineyards.

Inside we found a very intimate tasting room and gift shop enviroment illuminatedby two skylights. During this particular weekend, it was the final day of a Murder Mystery Dinner which was set to take place that evening; combining dinner with a play in the wineries barrel room.

With the winemaker also being the owner a large selection of wines are available for tasting for $3.00; add another $2.00 and the logo glass is yours to keep. This winery is a jewel nestled among the quaint beauty of Saxapahaw and Graham, North Carolina;both of which are great destinations for a weekend jaunt.
The winery may be small by physical standards, but do not let the size fool you. They offer a wide variety of wine selections, several events, are involved heavily in the local communities, and pride themselves on their contribution to conservation, and sustainability.

. This organization is the “Little Engine That Does.”

Check out their website for wine and accessory purchase and to register for the great events http://www.benjaminvineyards.com/. Our favorite are the paddling get togethers on the Haw River; with food and wine of course.
