Brought to you by "The Weekend Winers"

"It's Not About the Wine; Just the Experience."

As a couple of folks who enjoy good wine and a little back roads adventure, we want to share our visits to the wineries nearby. The number of wineries in North Carolina and Virginia continues to grow, and as we travel to as many of them as we can, we'll offer our impressions, and just maybe some information you don't normally find in the brochures. We hope you find Byway & Vine enjoyable, informative, and a place where you can share your experiences too.

Misty Creek Vineyards

As April began, we happened upon Misty Creek Vineyards while traveling the magnificent rolling byways of Davie County. This fine establishment is the labor of love of the Nichols family, all of whom we had the pleasure to meet and spend a bit of time with one day last week. The Winery is new to the area.  It's just wrapping up its first birthday and is part of both the Yadkin Valley and the Shallow Ford Wine Trail.

Located at 710 Wyo Road, the winery sits on a hill overlooking a lake. The day we visited, the place was packed with regulars enjoying a spacious patio outside, and the cozy fireplace lounging area inside.

The great hospitality and the wine also come with the heartfelt greeting of Hooch the rescue Rottweiler.  He's no wine connoisseur, but he does enjoy the crackers.
From our conversations, we learned that Barry Nichols, his wife Dale and his mom Marge (a wonderful artist, by the way) decided to embark on their wine venture simply because they wanted to offer people comfortable and friendly place get together to enjoy some nice wines. They say their customers are the key to success, so they've decided to keep the doors open until 8:00pm on Friday and Saturday and Sunday until 6:00pm. That way, folks can spend a bit more time enjoying the weekend with a fine glass of their wine.

Make no mistake, Barry and Dale not absentee owners.  Their philosophy is "all hands on deck".  You'll find them working the fields, serving customers and being great ambassadors of friendship to all. Mom Nichols also finds time when she is not harvesting grapes or helping customers’ find the right gift, to create the beautiful paintings you'll find in the tasting room gift shop.  And yes, they're for sale.

So, if you're planning a special event or just looking for some peace and tranquility with your wine, we invite you to visit this new spot on the map. It's a great place to start (or top off) your Weekend Winer adventure.
